Google+ Driving Google +1 Adoption

John Doherty pulled adoption rate numbers for Google's +1 social sharing button, along with share stats for Twitter and Facebook, for the Technorati Top 100 Web sites before and after the launch of Google+ to determine the impact. The adoption rates rose by a significant amount. An interesting bit of information from the data shows the number of sites that have +1s, but do not have the button implemented on their site, he writes.

    It's not exactly relevant here. But, Google's approach to linking and gathering people in inflates the numbers for the action.

    Heard they reported "10 million users" today. My guess is that at least half of those already had Google id's and were suckered in with strange messages that "..." wants to friend them on Google+.

    Essentially, Google+ is inflating numbers with Gmail users who attempt to connect to anybody they've ever sent or received email from. Of the 8 invites I've gotten, only two were from people I actually know well.

    I signed up. And, will not become active. Once I got inside it was clear that they were suckering us in. Also, resented Google's request to use social conversations to tweak the types of ads they offer me ON OTHER SITES. What? Creeeeeeepy.

    However, I do have some friends who love the theory of the circles - and I agree with them. We'll just have to see.
