Apple Profits, Sales Way Up

As if anyone needed more confirmation of the way Apple's products have caught on consumers worldwide, the company is proving it with its earnings reports.

According to the company's third-quarter 2011 financial results, iPhone sales were up 142% over the same quarter a year ago (selling a total 20.34 million worldwide in the third quarter) and iPad sales increased 183% (selling 9.25 million devices in the quarter). Mac sales were up 14%, while iPod sales were down 20% from the same period a year ago.

Overall, the company posted quarterly revenue of $28.57 billion in the third quarter 2011 (compared with $15,7 billion for the same quarter in 2010) and a quarterly net profit of $7.31 billion (compared with $3.25 billion).
