Gannett Taps Goetz As VP, Marketing

Gannett Co. has hired another NBC Universal marketing executive: Debra Goetz.

She follows the recent departure of Maryam Banikarim, who ran NBC Universal's integrated marketing business. Goetz will come to Gannett as vice president of marketing -- a new position -- where she will have responsibility over brand development, consumer and trade advertising, and integrated strategic marketing.

Goetz reports to Banikarim, now senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Gannett.

"Gannett recently launched its first corporate brand campaign and Debra, with her extensive marketing and advertising experience, especially across platforms, will be invaluable in building on that work," stated Banikarim.

At NBC, Goetz was vice president of integrated strategic marketing responsible for the "Healthy at NBCU" and "Hispanics at NBCU" initiatives, as well as "Green is Universal." In addition, she handled marketing programs for GE, General Mills, Sony Pictures and Subaru.

Prior to NBC, Goetz was the vice president of corporate marketing at Univision Communications, where she helped create the company's first brand campaign and played a key role in developing and producing Univision's advertising upfront events.

Before Univision, Goetz ran her own marketing consulting business, where she helped launch ecommerce businesses for Deutsche Bank, among others.
