Whole Foods Launches Children's Food Foundation

As part of its efforts to become the go-to store for family health, Whole Foods Market says it is launching the Whole Kids Foundation, a charitable organization that will provide children with access to healthy food choices through partnerships with schools, educators and organizations.

While its first initiative will provide grants to schools for "campus teaching gardens," the Austin, Tex.-based retailer says it will also continue its focus on school lunch reform and school/store partnerships.

In recent years, Whole Foods and its customers have donated more than $2 million to such groups as the Lunchbox.org and the Salad Bar Project, both aimed at reducing obesity and increasing produce consumption among kids.
