Sutter Home Wine Supports Breast Cancer Research

Sutter-Home

Sutter Home Winery is launching the 10th year of its Sutter Home for Hope program, which raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research, treatment and education programs benefiting thousands of families across the country.

The St. Helena, Calif.- based winemaker launched Sutter Home for Hope in 2001, after one of its owners, Vera Trinchero Torres, was diagnosed with the disease.

This year's program will include a new social media component that will launch on Facebook in October, says Megan Steffen, social media marketing manager, Sutter Home.

"Women are the largest demographic within our social media sites," Steffen tells Marketing Daily. "We are able to have wonderfully interactive relationships with our female consumers online. We always look for new ways to build long-term relationships with our most loyal fans. The Sutter Home female consumer is engaged, smart and eager to participate with Sutter Home for Hope."

In the "Capsules for Hope" program, which runs from August through the end of the year, Sutter Home will donate $1 toward breast cancer research, treatment and education programs for a combined maximum of $100,000, for every top-quality seal on any Sutter Home bottle of wine Sutter Home receives from consumers. Consumers who purchase Sutter Home varietals packaged in a screw-cap closure may send in the receipt as a substitute for the capsule seal.

Cancer programs the winemaker supports include Walk for Hope. Consumers are also invited to share their personal stories on the Sutter Home for Hope Web site, host "Girls' Night In" parties to discuss breast cancer awareness, or simply wear pink Sutter Home for Hope jerseys or ribbons.

Sutter Home is adding pink-ribbon art to 5.5 million bottles of its red, white and blush varietals and the special labels will appear in stores and in restaurants starting in August.

In addition to the breast cancer awareness project, Sutter Home is also promoting the use of Sutter Home for book club meetings. A different book is suggested each month and is paired with a wine and recipes to make for the get-togethers.

On Facebook, Sutter Home is offering a "100 Days of Summer" calendar to fans of the page, which offers suggestions for making the most out of the warm weather months.
