News Flash: College Kids Have Poor Nutrition Habits
Aug 19, 2011, 1:59 PM
Male college students eat only about five servings of fruits and vegetables per week, and females consume only about four per week, according to recent research with 582 college students, published in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The men eat more fat than women, although both sexes consumed more than 30% of their calories from fat.
Women have better eating habits overall than men, skipping fewer meals, reading more food labels and eating fast food less frequently.
But the researchers' bottom-line conclusion is that "there is a fundamental lack of understanding about how to eat well" among college-age Americans.
