California Fires Increases Traffic to News and Forest Sites

No suprise here, but Hitwise data found that fire, forest and news related websites have witnessed a huge increase in U.S. visits. The National Fire News website (www.nifc.gov) which provides news and information on fires throughout the United States, has witnessed an increase in U.S. visits of a huge 1937% visits between 10/23 and 10/27. Also, the Department of Transportation website (www.dot.ca.gov) has climbed up the ranks in the Government category, increasing it's marketshare of U.S. visits by 988%. On Sunday October 26th, the majority of traffic to The Dept. of Transportation - California website came from search engines (60%) and Government websites (11%). Weather.com remains as the most popular weather site amongst U.S. Internet users.
