Adobe To Support iOS Newsstand

The détente between Adobe and Apple appears to be progressing. Adobe announced this week that its popular Digital Publishing Suite will offer support for the upcoming Newsstand feature in Apple's iOS 5. As part of a major upgrade of the iPhone and iPad, OS Apple is creating a new section on the devices to house and manage content available via subscription in the iTunes App Store.

Newspapers and magazines will update themselves with the freshest issues in background, and the new dedicated area should allow publishers to merchandise their content more effectively than they have in the past in the general App Store environment.

Adobe's suite is used by many print publishers to manage content development and workflow. The will create documents that the Newsstand can recognize and will help publishers send push notifications and create icon covers from current issues.

After an initial period of tension between the two companies, Adobe appears to have warmed to supporting Apple's iOS, which famously shuns browser and app support of Adobe Flash. Adobe also recently launched a PDF creation app for iOS that lets users of the platform convert documents to the PDF format.
