CNN Cancels Connie Chung Tonight; Chung Departs Network

  • March 26, 2003
Count Connie Chung Tonight as another victim of CNN's efforts to boost its ratings in what has become a pitched battle between market leader Fox News Channel and the original all-news network. CNN confirmed Wednesday that it had canned the nine-month-old program, which had been showing slight ratings gains against Fox News Channel's O'Reilly Report. But that apparently wasn't enough for CNN, which pulled the show from the air a week ago. The well-known anchor - who joined CNN for the program after being at ABC News since 1997 - couldn't be reached for comment but reports said Chung was apparently leaving the network. There's no plans for a replacement show for the time being since the war in Iraq has taken center stage. It's the second CNN show in recent weeks to be canceled; the daytime Talk Back Live was canceled when CNN said it had changed direction.
