Weight Watchers Gains Readers

As Weight Watchers magazine puts its second issue on the newsstand with its new one million rate base, the title reports it posted a 64% increase in circulation for the second half of 2002, ranking first in circulation growth among both healthy lifestyle and women’s magazines, and second in 2002 circulation growth among all paid consumer magazines, according to recent ABC numbers. Publisher Wayne Perra says the March/April 2003 is the biggest since the 2000 re-launch, with new advertisers including Kellogg’s, Merck, Colgate Palmolive, Bayer, Orville Redenbacher's, Kimberly-Clark and Johnson & Johnson. According to the Publishers Information Bureau, ad pages for Weight Watchers were up 48% in 2002, and ad revenue increased 157% over 2001.
