Toyota Brings Production System To Food Baskets

A group of Toyota volunteers has applied the Toyota assembly system to packing hundreds of Thanksgiving food baskets to be given away by the Society of St. Vincent DePaul in Cincinnati.

The result has brought order to a packing process that had grown increasingly chaotic as food demand grew over the past few years. More than 1,000 recipients are expected to start lining up for the baskets, bags and boxes in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday at the Society's West End food pantry. Volunteers Kevin Thornberry, who worked with the Toyota Production System Support Center, suggested improvements and Brian Bichey, another Toyota support center manager, carries on the work today.
