The New York Times Co. has renamed its Wilmington, North Carolina newspaper. The Morning Star became The Star-News on April 24, taking the name of the Sunday newspaper. The paper is the oldest continuously run newspaper in North Carolina, having launched in 1867. The Times bought the Wilmington paper in 1975. In addition to the name change, The Times Co. is launching a redesign, including the front page, and is moving the entertainment section, called Currents, from Friday to Thursday. Currents will also add coverage of entertainment in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and 5,000 copies of the section will go, free, to area bars, restaurants and newsstands. Brunswick Neighbors, a community news section for Brunswick County, between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, will also be distributed free to all homes in that area starting this summer said spokeswoman Kay Ellington. "Brunswick is double digit household growth. Lots of people have second homes there. Lots of people come there for things like golf. It's rapidly growing," she said. No figure on the additional circulation resulting from that was available.
