AP chief executive Tom Curley will depart later this year, AP reported. Curley, who began as president in 2003, led the cooperative into the digital arena. His key initiatives included retooling the AP’s infrastructure to serve a variety of multimeda platforms and the adoption of aggressive copyright enforcement policies. Member newspapers provided about 40% of AP's revenue when Curley arrived. This year, member revenue will represent 21%. The cooperative reportedly earned a profit of $8.8 million in 2009 on revenues of $676 million. The company's board of directors is looking for a replacement; Curley will stay until the transition is complete.
