Can Strongarm Beat Facebook?

Maybe Google should have called its new social network Strongarm. That’s what CP+B’ Melissa Goodis seemed to suggest. Not because it strengthens biceps, per se, but because that’s the term Goodis used to describe Google’s push into social media.

“I feel like Google is trying to strong-arm people into working with them,” Goodis quipped during the Social Media Insider Summit’s “Maximizing The Platform” panel.

Goodis was alluding to Google’s heavy-handed tactics surrounding Google+.

Among other things, she said Google’s attempt to assert its social media prerogative by suggesting that “There’s not enough social data out there” is specious, at best.

“There are some folks out there,” she said, “who tested this hypothesis and it is no way accurate. I feel that Google’s time in the social space is going to be a little bit numbered.”
