'Glee', 'New Girl' Grab Key Demos

Glee.Fox's "Glee" made a big return on Tuesday night, thanks to its Micheal Jackson tribute.

Its Nielsen 3.7 rating/10 share among 18-49 viewers was some 17% higher than its last original broadcast -- but far below its 5 ratings when it started up a couple of year ago.

"Glee" was the best-rated network TV show. But much of this might have been due to CBS placing its "NCIS" shows on the sidelines.

Still, in repeats "NCIS" and "NCIS" did respectable ratings -- a 2.0/6 and a 1.8/5. From a pure audience point of view -- which is becoming somewhat more important again for some advertisers -- both shows grabbed more viewers than other networks. "NCIS" had 13.0 million viewers and "NCIS: Los Angeles" earned 11.1 million. "Glee" was at 9.0 million viewers.

Fox's new comedy "New Girl" almost got to the same level as "Glee": a 3.5/9 and 7.3 million viewers. It was second best in the valuable 18-49 crowd. "Raising Hope" pulled in with a modest 2.0/5.

Fox won the night with an average 3.2/8 -- almost double the ratings of CBS, which had a 1.7/5. Next, there was a three-way tie -- Univision, ABC, and NBC -- each had a 1.6/4. CW came in with a 0.6/2.

Other notables: NBC's "The Biggest Loser" scored a modest 2.1/6, which matched its season low. ABC's "Celebrity Wife Swap" finale tallied a 1.9/5, a season low, and down 10% from at 2.1 rating for last original show.

The CW's "90210" hit a 0.7/2, among 18-49 crowd, about the same as it has had recently, and "Ringer" was at a series low 0.6/1.
