  • February 9, 2012

Whole Foods Markets says same-store sales climbed 8.7% in its fiscal first quarter, with total sales rising 13% to $3.4 billion.  And net income increased 33% to $118.3 million.

The Austin, Tex.-based food retailer also detailed expansion plans, and says it opened six stores in the first quarter and expects to open three stores in the second quarter.

While the company currently has 317 stores, it has said it believes it can reach 1,000 in the U.S., and says it signed eight new leases, in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York and Ohio.
