Verizon Wireless Re-Ups With NHL

  • February 13, 2012

Verizon Wireless has renewed its arrangement to be the official wireless provider of the National Hockey League.

The multi-year agreement will give Verizon Wireless customers access to exclusive content through the NHL GameCenter Premium, including the ability to stream programming, access to special events such as the NHL Winter Classic, NHL All-Star Weekend and the Stanley Cup finals. The app will also include bonus angles for NBC broadcast games, as well as NBC Sports’ “Inside the Glass” analysis from the national network broadcasts.

Verizon 4G LTE Smartphone and tablet customers will be able to get the premium app for free, while owners of other phones will pay $9.99 for the app. However, Verizon Wireless customers will be able to see games broadcast on NBC through both the premium and basic versions of NHL’s GameCenter app.

“With more fans using mobile phones and tablets to access NHL content, we are focused on growing this area to provide the best customer experience possible,” said Keith Wachtel, Senior Vice President of
Integrated Sales at the NHL, in a statement. “An important step in accomplishing this is to extend our partnership with Verizon, a leader in the wireless category, to bring our tech-savvy fans the premium NHL content they demand through the medium of their choice.”
