Clear Channel Crafts New Brand Image
The nation’s largest broadcast radio group is looking to fine-tune its brand image and is assembling the personnel to make it happen. Clear Channel Entertainment and Media announced 15 executive appointments for “image coordinators” who will support the company’s national programming initiatives, led by the big push to promote iHeartRadio, positioned by Clear Channel as a competitor to Pandora.
Each image coordinator is responsible for a specific format.
They include David Jay Heislop, L.A., for Adult Contemporary; Miles Hlivko, Cleveland, for mainstream and alternative rock; Malcolm Ryker, San Diego, for Active Rock; Scott Stanley, Cincinnati, for news/talk; Darrin Marshall, Washington D.C., for contemporary hit radio; Liliani Gonzalez, Miami, for Spanish; Jon Manuel, San Francisco, for contemporary hit radio rhythmic; Bob Schmidt, L.A., for sports; Garry Domingue, Phoenix, for classic hits/oldies; Eddie Fennell, Philadelphia, for urban adult contemporary; Rick Gangi, NYC, for classic rock; Ron Shapiro, L.A., for urban classic and R&B; Bernie Lucas, Washington D.C., for country; Steve Dubbz, Miami, for urban contemporary; and David Tomerlin, Minneapolis, for hot adult contemporary.
The appointments are part of an ongoing reinvention of Clear Channel Entertainment and Media, put in motion by CC Media Holdings CEO Bob Pittman, who took over the top spot in October of last year.
In addition to rebranding Clear Channel Radio as Clear Channel Entertainment and Media, these strategic moves have included the creation of a new national programming platforms team and new brand management team, which are expected to exert more centralized control over formats and content.
The company also named music industry veteran John Sykes to the new role of president, Clear Channel Entertainment Enterprises, where he will be responsible for leading Clear Channel’s push into TV and live events. This is all part of its ongoing effort to expand beyond broadcast radio and transform itself into a multiplatform digital content company.
