Dixons Readies On-Demand Film, TV Service

The UK’s largest electrical retailer will promote the service, which launches March 1, through its 600 Currys and PC World stores nationwide. KnowHow Movies will feature content from partners Disney, Pixar, Warner Bros and Momentum Pictures, which has UK right to films.

A major advantage for the service, which is an extension of its customer service brand, would be its being pre-loaded on all Internet-connected devices sold by Dixons.

Gary Hearns, senior category manager for content and software at Dixons Retail, tells The Guardian that the service was not a direct competitor to the subscription-based services offered by Netflix and LoveFilm because it will offer a pay-per-view model.
