Potentially following the lead of YouTube, Hulu, and Netflix, Amazon could be getting into original content. “At least that is what appeared to be the case for a fleeting few hours March 6 on LinkedIn,” reports Fortune. “Joe Lewis, a new executive with the tech giant … briefly listed his title as Vice President of Original Television at Amazon.” (Lewis’ job title is currently listed as Vice President of Production at Amazon Studios.)
The brief change follow reports that Amazon is looking for executives to lead creative projects through development. The company's California production studio, People's Production Company, is already in the business with creating original content, according to Fortune. Also, Amazon has already flirted with feature films, though, as Fortune notes, “it approaches them in an unconventional model based on crowd-sourcing ideas.”
Still, the hiring of Lewis this month -- not to mention two job listings last month calling for creative executives to helm comedy and kids series -- strong indicates that Amazon is hot for original TV content.
