Datsun Nameplate Being Dusted Off For Global Sales

Ditched in 1981, the Datsun brand is being brought back in 2014 for entry-level cars in India, Indonesia and Russia in an effort by Nissan Motor Co. to grab an 8% share of the global market by 2016. 

Nissan hopes the 80-year-old nameplate will allow it to sell cheaper cars under an independent brand that won’t risk hurting its core brand. That happened to rivals Toyota and Honda as they push low-cost vehicles in India and other markets.
