Sporting News has poached James Borth away from Dennis Publishing to serve as its senior vice president, a post in which he will attempt to continue the publication's business and circulation hot streak. Borth was previously group circulation director at Dennis, where he devised Maxim's circulation strategy and helped launch Stuff and Blender. In a press release, Sporting News president and chief executive officer Richard Allen said Borth will have "an immediate and enduring impact" on the company's properties. "In business, as in sports, champions are built around franchise players who help bring out the best in an excellent team," he added. "Jim Borth is the MVP in our industry because of an unexcelled track record of connecting magazines with a large and growing fan base."
