Alfred J. Seaman, 99, Ex-4As, AEF Founding Chairman

Alfred J. Seaman passed away in his home in Oyster Bay, LI on May 26, 2012, three-and-a-half months shy of his 100th birthday, reports The New York Times. Born in Hempstead, NY on Sept. 17, 1912, he graduated from Columbia University, served in World War II on both the Atlantic and Pacific fronts as an aircraft carrier CIC officer and became one of the leading figures in the post-war advertising industry. 

At the time of his retirement in 1981, he was chairman and CEO of S, S, C & B (later Ammirati Puris Lintas) and was a key figure in his agency's joining The Interpublic Group of Companies. He had served as chairman of the 4As, was elected in 1983 to the Advertising Hall of Fame and was the founding chairman of the Advertising Education Foundation.
