Ice Cream Crazy

Odd ice cream flavors will be big this year, but they tend to drive people to vanilla, chocolate or strawberry. "Crazy flavors get the buzz started," says Ray Karam, senior tastemaster at Cold Stone Creamery. Some examples: Sushi cupcakes topped with Swedish Fish candy; watermelon chip, a watermelon ice sprinkled with chocolate "seeds." Carl's Jr. is testing the Ice Cream Brrrger: chocolate ice cream and icing between two sugar cookies that's made to look like a hamburger with oozing ketchup and mustard coloring. There's also ice cream pizza from Friendly's, Dairy Queen's Candy Shop Blizzard, due in July, which smells like a candy shop, with mini-chocolates filled with hazelnut creme, fudge and caramel blended with dark cocoa fudge and DQ vanilla soft serve.
