Santa Monica-based Demand Media has promoted Senior Vice President, Finance and Treasurer Mel Tang to CFO of the publicly traded digital media publisher. The move will be effective August 16, 2012.

In related moves, Demand said President-CFO Charles Hilliard will become Special Advisor to the company’s board, and that it had reaffirmed its financial guidance for the second quarter and full-year 2012.

Demand Chairman-CEO Richard Rosenblatt said the timing of Tang’s promotion and Hilliard’s transition is optimum, because the company is on “solid financial ground.” Hilliard was a chief architect in Demand’s IPO, and Tang has been a member of his financial team since 2006.

As senior vice president, finance and treasurer, Tang had been responsible for all financial planning and analysis, and handled the treasury role for Demand. Prior to joining the company, he was director in the media investment banking group at UBS, and worked at early stage venture capital firm Prime Ventures.

Just correcting the headline here - Finance Chief Hilliard, not Rosenblatt, will be transitioning.
