Bully Denied Use Of Kayak.com Creates Own Travel Booking Site
Frank Reardon, the man banned from using travel website KAYAK.com because he bullied the site’s founder, is looking to make amends. He created a video last week asking for the public’s help in having him gain access to travel deals. Frank wants social media users to let KAYAK know, via Twitter and Facebook, whether he should be allowed to use the site.
While the public continues to weigh in on his fate, Frank launched his own, competing travel-booking website called FranksKayak.com.
Interestingly enough, the site is built entirely on YouTube -- and its service is hilariously slapdash. Frank
explains his departure cities, each a clickable link to the next booking step, the arrival city, where there are seven options. Once I requested a trip from Philadelphia to Cabo San Lucas, Frank asked
when I’d like to depart: my options were this weekend, next weekend or in a couple of months. I chose next weekend for a week’s stay. Lastly, I chose aisle seating for my flight. The grand
total: $2,700 (not exactly competitive with Kayak’s discount prices). My plane tickets for next weekend’s trip will arrive in the mail in four to six weeks, when they won’t do a me a
bit of good.
“There are 10 departure cities and 7 arrival cities, but
between all of Frank's different booking options there are a grand total of 1,890 different ways to travel through the experience,” said Eric Kallman, Executive Creative Director of Barton F.
Graf 9000, the agency behind the campaign. Frank shot three days worth of videos, 290 in total. Connecting all of the videos together on YouTube took approximately two weeks.
“We built it in YouTube because not only is it a fun experience, but we think that's how Frank really would have done it,” said Kallman.
