NBC News is extending its footprint with the launch of Latin-American targeted new site, NBCLatino.com.
The site will be a combination of
English-language news, information and lifestyle content, Hispanic angles on major stories, as well as Hispanic perspectives and opinion pieces. This new venture builds on the success of NBC
News’ first targeted news Web site, theGrio.com, which launched in 2009.
NBC says this is a new Hispanic news and lifestyle site which will get resources and new stories from NBC
News, including “Today" show, “Nightly News,” MSNBC, msnbc.com, as well as its sister network Telemundo.
“It’s important for NBC News to look for growth
opportunities outside of broadcast news, and to continue to develop these targeted ventures that help us reach new audiences and are also a natural extension of how we operate,” stated Steve
Capus, president of NBC News.
“We see NBC Latino as a huge advantage to the overall news network because of our ability to tap into and share their story pipeline with our other
programs and properties.”
Chris Peña, the executive editor of NBC Latino, says: “The goal of NBC Latino is to take Hispanic news beyond the usual conversation, toward
something more inspired, empowered and energized; to tell and reflect the Hispanic-American story with authentic voices." The network wants to make NBC "the brand of choice for Hispanics across
mobile, online and TV."
