Sheen Comedy Likely Returning To FX Next Year
Charlie Sheen seems poised for a continued run on FX -- not long
after the end of his tenure with “Two And A Half Men.” Jon Feltheimer, CEO of the studio behind “Anger Management,” said Friday that FX has “already expressed their
confidence” that a ratings-based trigger will kick in, calling for 90 more episodes of the Sheen-starring comedy to be ordered.
Lionsgate said the plan would call for producing some 40 episodes a year, which FX could air as it pleased starting early next year.
Sheen’s dad Martin will make his debut next week as a recurring character on the comedy. “Anger Management” producer Joe Roth had told Bloomberg earlier this week the show should be renewed, which Lionsgate’s Feltheimer backed up.
Speaking on a conference call, Feltheimer touted other Lionsgate TV productions, including the coming debut of “Nashville” on ABC and a 2013 reality series on GSN.
Lionsgate continues to hold a 51% stake in the TV Guide Network, which produced a loss in the second quarter as it did in 2011. Feltheimer said the network was part of the recent upfront market, landing about a 5% volume increase and 3% bump in pricing.
It has been suggested that Lionsgate would look to divest itself from TV Guide Network, and the executive said the company is working on a new strategy, though he did not elaborate.
