ESPN Debuts College Football App

College-Football-AAESPN is launching a new app devoted to college football, with a version optimized for iPad users.  The breaking news and features will also be available for other iOS and Android devices with versions available via Apple and Google Play stores.

ESPN is looking to allow users to customize their interface with scoreboards and content devoted to specific teams, including video and news alerts.

Also available is access to WatchESPN, which offers live coverage of a buffet of games each Saturday. ESPN promises video clips from games within a minute of the action taking place, while there will be tweets from fans and ESPN analysts.

Jay Lee, senior director of product development at ESPN, said the app takes advantage of content ESPN is already producing, but adding “highly customizable features to keep fans informed and engaged 24/7 year-round, not just on game days.”

ESPN’s college football coverage this season includes 450-plus games.

The network is in the first year of deals with the Pac-12 (12-year agreement) and ACC (15). A weekly game will be available on ESPN 3D. The season opens Thursday with an SEC match-up as part of a double-header.
