Samsung Ad Takes Shot At iPhone 5
Samsung is taking aim at the iPhone 5 with a new campaign that compares the latest Apple phone with its flagship Galaxy S III device. According to BGR, the first attack ad from Samsung appeared in newspapers on Sunday, under the heading “It doesn’t take a genius.”
In the ad, the South Korean electronics giant lists features of the rival phones side by side, attempting to show the Galaxy device bests the iPhone 5 in several key areas including display size, RAM, available storage and battery life. A separate post on TechCrunch called the ad misleading (an ad, misleading?) because it includes all of Samsung’s software features but none for the iPhone 5, except for Siri, resulting in a longer list.
And while the Galaxy screen may have more pixels because of its size, the iPhone 5 offers greater pixel density, giving Apple’s Retina display a sharper image. One thing’s for sure, the Samsung ads haven’t slowed preorders for the new iPhone 5, which hit a record 2 million in 24 hours, according to Apple.
Samsung has a bigger response coming in the beginning of next year, with the launch of the Galaxy S IV at the Mobile World Congress in February, according to TechCrunch, citing a Korea Times story. Until then, Samsung will have rely on ad salvos against the iPhone 5.
