Boston.com To Broaden Video Offerings
The additional online videos are the result of an agreement with WorldNow, a New York company that provides broadband services, to use its streaming video technology. Boston.com, which posts content from The Boston Globe, also streams video footage of pre- and post-game interviews with Red Sox players from the New England Sports Network. Before making the deal with WorldNow, Boston.com used in-house technology to stream videos.
The new technology will allow users to create playlists of video clips, said DeSisto. She also said the new streaming method will allow Boston.com to provide advertisers with more details about the total number of clips users viewed, how long they spent watching them, and whether they saw the entire ad.
Boston.com is one of a growing number of Web newspaper publishers to recently expand their video offerings. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Web site, AJC.com, also signed a deal with WorldNow to use its streaming technology. Earlier this year, USAToday.com joined forces with The FeedRoom, another broadband company, to make it easier for users to watch streaming videos with one click.
