Despite frequent illness outbreaks and recalls, consumers' levels of concern about food safety continue to remain relatively constant, reports The NPD Group.
Concern levels do spike during outbreaks/recalls, but 2012's average numbers are unvarying, according to NPD's Food Safety Monitor.
Between January and August 2012, 60% of U.S. consumers on average said they were somewhat or slightly concerned about the safety of the U.S. food supply, 25% were extremely or very concerned, and 15% weren't concerned at all.
The averages were virtually the same in 2010 and 2011.
