  • October 23, 2012

As expected, Apple unveiled a smaller-sized version of its popular iPad, along with new versions of its iMac, MacBook and even an updated version of its traditional iPad in an event earlier today.

The new iPad Mini, as its called, will feature a 7.9-inch screen (compared with the 9.1-inch screen found on the traditional iPad) and will have a starting price of $329 (which is about $130 more than Google’s Nexus 7 tablet and about $160 more than Amazon’s latest Kindle Fire product). The product will also feature a camera and 10-hour battery life. The Mini’s will go on sale on Friday, Nov. 2

“iPad mini is every inch an iPad. With its gorgeous 7.9-inch display, iPad mini features the same number of pixels as the original iPad and iPad 2, so you can run more than 275,000 apps designed specifically for iPad,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in a release.

In addition, Apple showed off a fourth-generation iPad, which features a Retina display, HD camera and a faster microchip. Both the new iPad and the iPad Mini will feature the Lightning connector Apple introduced with its iPhone 5 earlier this year.
