Ad Titan Makes AAF's Hall Of Fame

  • November 21, 2012

Gerry Rubin, the co-founder of Honda's agency for 38 years, RPA (which used to be called Rubin Postaer and Associates), has been elected to the American Advertising Federation’s Advertising Hall of Fame, competing against 40 nominees.

Eschewing the consolidation epidemic Rubin did not sell his agency to a media behemoth like Publics or Omnicon. Now the agency is the the third-largest independent in the country, and says it's worth about $1.3 billion. The firm says 75% of management has worked for the agency for more than 10 years.  The 2013 induction ceremony will be April 29 in New York. Rubin will join six other advertising executives. The full-service shop was founded by Rubin and his creative director partner, Larry Postaer, when they left Needham Harper Worldwide following its merger with Omnicom.

In 1994, Rubin established RP alpha—representing Honda’s regional marketing operations. And in 1999 he played a significant role in the agency’s successful winning of the Acura business. Later new-business wins include recognizable brands such as ampm, ARCO, California Tobacco Control Program. Castrol, Farmers Insurance, Intuit Small Business, La-Z-Boy, Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and Newport Beach Film Festival.  Rubin is past chairman of the Southern California chapter of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4As), and past chairman of the Western Region 4As Board of Governors.
