Fox Sports Expected To Enlarge LA Dodgers Deal

Fox Sports' Prime Ticket looks to be extending the TV rights to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to a number of reports. Fox Sports lost out on a deal to air the Los Angeles Lakers recently.

The new deal could be worth $6 billion over 25 years -- or $240 million -- to the Major League Baseball franchise. Recently, Fox Sports lost out on a deal for the Lakers that went to Time Warner Cable for $3 billion over 20 years.

This $240-million-a-year proposed deal would be a significant rise over the $3 billion/20-year deal Fox made for the Los Angeles Angels in 2011. That came in at around $150 million a year.

The exclusive period of negotiations between the Dodgers and Fox is said to end on Nov. 30. It is not known whether the new deal would include a stand-alone Dodgers TV channel. Next year, the Dodgers will be in their final year of its long-term deal on Fox's Prime Ticket.

If the negotiation period ends without a deal, it is expected that Time Warner Cable could make a play.

Along with Time Warner's new Los Angeles Lakers deal, the Time Warner cable sports channel includes Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy and the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, as well as college sports with high school sports programming.

Fox Sports regional sports channel Prime Ticket also has programming from the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers and the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks.
