Go Daddy Acquires M.dot
As part of a broader mobile push, domain name provider Go Daddy has acquired the M.dot app for creating simple optimized mobile sites. The company said the move was aimed at giving its 11 million customers an easy way to set up and manage mobile sites directly from their smartphones.
Financial terms of the Go Daddy deal were not disclosed.
Started last June by entrepreneurs Dominik Balogh and Pavel Serbajilo, M.dot will operate from Go Daddy’s Silicon Valley office, which will double in size to 80 staffers in the coming year.
“M.dot’s global vision of a mobile future for small businesses fits beautifully with what our customers need right now,” stated Go Daddy CEO Blake Irving.
Available for the iPhone, the M.dot app promises to help small businesses launch their own mobile presence in “five minutes” by using pre-loaded templates with features including store location, driving directions, tap-to-call and photo galleries. It also offers a blog feature and integration with social properties like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
M.dot had raised $700,000 in seed funding to date from investors including Archimedes Labs, Floodgate and SV Angel, according to CrunchBase.
It competes with other DIY solutions for building mobile sites, such as Duda Mobile and bMobilized, which recently raised $2.5 million.
