Yahoo! Acquires Bloomba, Enters Searchable Email Market

Yahoo! Friday announced an acquisition of San Mateo, Calif.-based Stata Labs, developer of powerful, searchable email application Bloomba. While details of the plan were not disclosed, the move appears to pit Yahoo! against Google's Gmail service in the burgeoning searchable email marketplace. While scant information was available on plans for the service, Stata' Web site indicated the Bloomba and a professional service, SAproxy Pro would no longer be available as premium services. The move is part of an aggressive diversification effort by the portal, which in July acquired Oddpost.
