Macdonald Promoted To President, McCann New York

Chris-Macdonald-AHarris Diamond, installed as CEO of McCann Worldgroup late last year, continues to put his stamp on the global agency network. The shop confirmed a series of top-level executive shifts, including the promotion of Chris Macdonald to president, McCann New York.

Hank Summy, who had been running the New York office in the broader role of North American president, has been named to the new position of president, commerce at McCann sibling agency MRM. For now, the agency indicated it will not name a new North American president.

Instead, Macdonald oversees New York and his boss, Luca Lindner, president of McCann Worldgroup Americas, Africa and Middle East will handle remaining North America responsibilities.

Macdonald joined McCann London in 2005. Under his leadership, the London operation won over $150 million in new billings, according to the agency.

Two executives will replace Macdonald in London: Rob Doubal and Laurence Thomson have been name co-presidents and Chief Creative Officers of McCann London. Previously, they were co-executive creative directors at the London shop. The two executives joined the McCann London operation in 2012 from Weiden + Kennedy.

Separately, Michael Mclaren has been promoted to global president of MRM from president MRM East & Global Client Solutions Director. Summy and Jacobs both report to MRM CEO Bill Kolb.

The agency also confirmed Thursday that Ignite Restaurant Group was consolidating its brand advertising with McCann Erickson New York, adding agency of record duties for Romano’s Macaroni Grill chain and strategy responsibilities for the Brick House Tavern + Tap brand eateries.

The consolidation follows the client’s decision last fall to award McCann agency of record duties for Joe’s Crab Shack Restaurants. The client, which reported about $465 million in revenue in 2012, spent about $30 million on ads last year to promote the three chains, according to Kantar.
