Original 'Voice' Judges Return

The-VoiceThe original quartet of coaches for “The Voice” will return for the fifth season this fall. Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will be back as the show continues to draw strong ratings and serve as a cornerstone for NBC.

Shakira and Usher, who swapped in for Aguilera and Cee Lo this spring, will return for season six in 2014, debuting after the Winter Olympics. Carson Daly remains the host.

Regarding the return of the four originals, Paul Telegdy, who oversees alternative programming at NBC, stated: “They’re the reason this show launched so strong for the first three cycles ,and we owe them a debt of gratitude.”

NBC said “The Voice,” with its 5.2 average rating in the 18-to-49 demo, is the second-highest-rated prime-time entertainment show this season. “The Voice” has an element of stability with its judges as “American Idol,” where ratings by one measure fell 44% for the final, is in flux.

Last fall, “The Voice” served as a lead-in helping NBC gain a freshman hit with “Revolution.” New drama “The Blacklist” will follow it this fall on Mondays.

On Tuesday, NBC is counting on it to give a lift to the returning “Chicago Fire.” The show has had a measure of success on Wednesdays, and NBC still thinks it has room to grow. The network has ordered a spinoff featuring Windy City cops.
