IAB Asks Advertisers to Limit Pop-Ups

  • September 21, 2004
The Interactive Advertising Bureau Monday issued final guidelines limiting the intrusive pop-up and pop-under ads. The guidelines, which are voluntary, specify that users should not be exposed to more than one pop-up per visit to a site. The IAB also suggested in its final guidelines that all pop-ups and pop-unders should display a box that users can click on to close the ad, and that audio and visual components to the ad shouldn't automatically run, but should be user-initiated. The full guidelines are online at: http://iab.net/standards/popup.asp.
