McCann Worldgroup Names Kolb Chairman, CEO

Bill-Kolb-AAnother major management shift was announced at McCann Worldgroup today as Harris Diamond, installed as CEO last fall, continues to put his stamp on the firm.

The latest move puts Bill Kolb in the newly created position of chairman and CEO of McCann Worldgroup’s worldwide General Motors account. As a result, Kolb will relinquish his CEO duties at McCann’s digital marketing shop MRM but maintain involvement as chairman of the agency.

For now, MRM isn’t naming a replacement CEO; instead, it has indicated that two senior executives at the shop will jointly run its day-to-day operations. They are Michael McLaren, MRM’s Worldwide President, and Hank Summy, the shop’s president of Commerce.

Kolb’s new role overseeing GM, one of McCann’s oldest and biggest accounts, includes leading the team at Commonwealth, created last year to oversee the global Chevrolet account. Commonwealth was initially a joint venture between McCann and Goodby Silverstein & Partners, but earlier this year, McCann took control and Goodby bowed out. He will also oversee McCann’s Detroit operations.

“Bill is one of our most experienced multiplatform and global marketing executives, which he has demonstrated on GM, as well as the many other clients he has worked with,” stated Diamond.

At MRM, Kolb is credited with leading the establishment and growth of its GM-dedicated Detroit office, which collaborates with McCann Erickson and Commonwealth on the auto assignment.
