Sporting News Gets Record Online Traffic in April
SportingNews.com posted record online traffic figures in April, and was the No. 1 destination for digital sports video
during the month, according to Sporting News Media, citing comScore data.
Overall SportingNews.com attracted 30.7 million unique visitors in April, making it the
fifth-most-visited sports site during the month, ahead of CBS Sports and USA Today Sports Media. It trailed Yahoo, ESPN, FoxSports on MSN.com and
Bleacher Report.
Sporting
News Media also announced the launch of five new digital video programming initiatives, set to debut in coming months. The digital programs will be distributed to over 250 online publishers that
syndicate
Sporting News content through its ePlayer platform.
The first, “Hot Reads” with Troy Aikman, is a weekly look at key games and interesting match-ps from
the perspective of the Hall of Fame quarterback. “Fantasy Source Waiver Wire Watch” gives the perspective of Fantasy Source editors on the right moves for fantasy league players.
“Round the Track with Bob Pockrass” gives the NASCAR insider’s take on stock car racing. “First & 10” gives commentator Matt Hayes’ often outspoken
perspective on 10 college football topics each week in rapid-fire succession, while “Hot Corner” gives “Moneyball”-type insights into Major League Baseball from Anthony
Witrado.
Finally, Sporting News Media also announced the appointment of Rich Routman to chief revenue officer, effective July 1, 2013. Routman has 16 years of experience in business
strategy, corporate development, marketing and sales.
Cordobés To Associate Publisher, Cooking Light Lee Cordobés has been
promoted to associate publisher of
Cooking Light and CookingLight.com, the Time Inc. magazine announced.
Cooking Light Publisher Karla Partilla stated: “She is laser
focused on working closely with the team to develop creative integrated offerings for our advertising partners, which has led to incremental revenue for the brand -- both in print and
online.”
Wired Names New Appointments Wired has revealed a slate of new editorial appointments, straddling print and
digital. First up, Claudia de Almeida has been named design director, following her success working on the redesign for the June issue. Scott Broock has been named executive producer -- a new role
where he will develop original multiplatform content and oversee all editorial video, including recently announced original programming. Cliff Kuang has been named senior editor for design, where he
will oversee coverage of design and reposition the design vertical, shifting its focus from the maker movement to a wider view of the culture at large. Susan Murcko is returning to
Wired as
senior editor.
AARP Names Love EIC Robert Love has been named editor in chief of
AARP The Magazine. Love previously held editorial
positions at News Corporation, Wenner Media, Conde Nast Publications, Rodale Inc. and the Reader’s Digest Association, where he played a key role in developing and managing publications,
including posts as executive editor at
The Week, national affairs editor at
Reader’s Digest, and managing editor and vice president at
Rolling Stone. Love has also
authored two books: "The Great Oom: The Improbable Birth of Yoga in America" (Viking, 2010) and "Elvis Presley" (Franklin Watts, 1987).
