Safire To Leave The New York Times Columnist Post

William Safire, The New York Times long-time conservative columnist, will end his column on January 24, 2005.  Safire, who joined the paper in 1973 after working as a speechwriter for President Nixon, and has won a Pulitzer Prize in 1978 for distinguished commentary, will continue penning his "On Language" feature in the Sunday edition of New York Times Magazine.
