Mag Bag: Bonnier, Sony Launch 'Imaging Edge'

Bonnier’s photography titles, American Photo and Popular Photography, have joined forces to create a new custom publication sponsored by Sony, called Imaging Edge. According to Talking New Media, which first reported the launch, Imaging Edge includes an app, a Web site (imagingedge.com) and a print magazine, although it’s unclear what the frequency of the print publication will be.

The Imagine Edge site and the downloadable PDF of the first issue both feature prominent ads, as well as editorial content about Sony cameras and associated products throughout, including the new NEX-3N, the NEX-7, the Cyber-shot RX100 II, the RX1R and Carl Zeiss Touit lenses.

Imaging Edge also draws on editorial and marketing resources from other Bonnier magazines, like Saveur, which is co-hosting an upcoming photography event in Charleston, SC, along with Sony and Popular Photography. One article focuses on photography from Saveur. The magazine also promotes the Sony World Photography Awards, billed as “The Biggest Photo Competition on Earth.”

The Imaging Edge app and Web site feature video content demonstrating shooting and editing techniques, camera controls and features, and motion capture technology.

Vibe Lives On With Reduced Frequency

Vibe magazine owner SpinMedia is reducing the title’s frequency from six times per year to four, but has no plans to stop publishing the urban music and entertainment title, despite rumors to that effect, according to Ad Age. The quarterly publishing schedule becomes effective with the magazine’s 20th anniversary issue, currently on newsstands with a cover price of $4.99. SpinMedia may also bring back the print edition of defunct music mag Spin, according to the same report.

O’Keefe To Publisher, Runner’s World, Grice to Associate Publisher, Bicycling

Rodale Inc. has made several executive appointments at its outdoor fitness titles. Molly O’Keefe has been promoted to publisher of Runner’s World and Running Times; she previously served as associate publisher of the magazines, as well as Bicycling. Zack Grice has been named associate publisher for sales and marketing at Bicycling, taking over O’Keefe. He previously served as associate publisher of marketing.
