Clear Channel Airports Creates Radio Station For O'Hare, Midway

Travelers at Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports will have access to a custom radio station this holiday season courtesy of Clear Channel Airports. It just launched “AIR Chicago,” a round-the-clock airport radio station delivering information, airport traffic, weather, business news, and music courtesy of the Chicago Department of Aviation.

The AIR Chicago channel is available through Clear Channel Entertainment and Media's iHeartRadio.com and the iHeartRadio app, as well as on the CDA's www.flychicago.com Web site and Clear Channel’s local 103.5 KISS FM HD2 digital station.

The channel will also carry advertising from local and national brands, complementing CCA's new ClearVision airport TV network (a rival to CNN Airport) which offers entertainment, weather, and news video content to travelers.

Last week CCA unveiled another custom media project for the CDA, a “Green Education Kiosk,” built with sustainable materials, which will highlight the CDA's environmentally friendly airport initiatives. In May of this year, CCA won a five-year contract to create and operate digital out-of-home networks at both O'Hare and Midway, extending a relationship between CCA and CDA dating back to 2002.

According to estimates from the Federal Aviation Administration, O’Hare handled around 67 million passengers in 2011, while Midway saw around 17 million, for a total of roughly 84 million passengers at both CDA properties.

AIR Chicago is not the first custom content platform created by CCA for airport clients.

Earlier this year, Dallas Love Field airport managers asked CCA to create a customized TV channel for children, to be shown in “Kids’ Zone” play areas around the airport, as part of CCA’s ClearVision network. The new product, “ClearVision Kids,” will soon be available at other airports with dedicated facilities for children.
