Sex sells…pretty much everywhere. The mobile migration of eyeballs off of the desktop spares no genre, including porn. One of the most popular worldwide sources of adult content, Pornhub has released its year-end review of online consumption across its portal. When it comes to porn mobilization. The U.S. is far and away leading the world. In 2012, 46% of Pornhub activity from the U.S. was still coming from desktop browsers. In just the last year, that share has dropped substantially to only 38%.

Smartphones now account for a majority of visits at Pornhub, fully 52%. Another 10% is going to tablets. Britain come closest to the U.S. in mobile usage, with 43% of Pornhub visits coming from handsets and 15% from tablets. Except for Mexico, the rest of the world continues to view porn principally from the desktop. But in the case of our neighbor to the south, Mexico demonstrated the most dramatic shift between 2012 and 2013. Its share of Pornhub viewing went from 61% desktop to 47% in a year, with 45% of viewing now on handset and 7% on tablets.

The average visit duration to Pornhub has increased almost a full minute in the last year, from just under 10 minutes to 10:53 in the U.S. Southern states -- especially Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama and Louisiana, along with Hawaii, lead the nation in session length, while New England states, especially Rhode Island, Vermont and New Hampshire, have the shortest session times.

Porn is in direct competition with major media and holiday events, according to Pornhub. During NFC football championship games and the Super Bowl in January 2013, Pornhub viewership dipped between 16% and 22%. During the "Walking Dead" season finale in March, usage dropped 6%. Curiously, New Year's Eve, with a traffic reduction of 34%, trumps even Christmas Day (-27%) for dampening world porn consumption. Overall. However, January is the traffic peak for the site in most countries, with August the least trafficked month.

Pornhub claims to be the world's top porn site, with 1.68 billion visits per hour.
