NEW! The .GIFYS Celebrates The Internet's Best GIFs

The GIF is 26 years old and it finally has its own award show. The .GIFYS, created by CP+B LA, honors GIFs as a medium and artistic format. A panel of industry experts from Buzzfeed, Gawker, Tumblr and Mashable, among others, curated their choices for best GIFs -- and starting Tuesday, anyone can vote for their favorite GIF. There are twelve categories in all, including cats, WTF, can't look away, sports, animals, news + politics and GIF of the year. Voting is open for the next week, with awards distributed at the end of the month. The site features a bevy of well-known GIFs and many I never saw before. Most of my favorite GIFs involve animals, like the one where a cat dives into a beanbag chair, or a man holds his prize catch of the day only to have a sea lion steal it away.
