Jerry Remy To Return To Red Sox Broadcast Booth

Boston sportscaster Jerry Remy will return to the NESN broadcast booth for the 2014 Red Sox season, both Remy and the station announced late Monday.

Remy, 61, has been on leave since his son, Jared, was arrested for the stabbing death of his live-in girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, in August 2013. Remy told the Boston Herald late Monday that he and his wife have applied for custody of Jared Remy's and Martel's five-year-old daughter, who witnessed the slaying. Jared Remy is currently being held without bail, awaiting trial in Massachusetts.

"Just held press conf- I'll be back for 2014-it was difficult off-season-appreciate all your support-looking fwd to spring training," Remy wrote on his Twitter account late Monday.

“We look forward to having Jerry back in the booth for the 2014 season,” said NESN president and CEO Sean McGrail, via the station's website. “It was a difficult personal decision for Jerry to make and all of us at NESN and the Red Sox are completely supportive of his return to our broadcast.”

Remy, a former second baseman who was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2006, has been with NESN since 1988.
