When The Ads Are More Important Than The Game: Boston.com To Host 'Brand Bowl'

Move over, Puppy Bowl.

Boston.com plans to hold its sixth annual Brand Bowl this Sunday, where viewers can weigh in, in real-time, on whether a Super Bowl ad is a win or an epic fail.

Ad fans can go to brandbowl.com to get in on the action, where they can watch live updates and post real-time comments as the ads air. Those who want to let the world to know how they really feel can also tweet their thoughts using the #BrandBowl hashtag. Tweets will be streamed live through brandbowl.com, and then analyzed by PointsLocal's technology platform. PointsLocal and Boston.com will announce the most loved, hated and talked-about ads Monday morning.

Hardcore ad fans can also take a trip down memory lane by viewing the most recently released and most popular Super Bowl ads off all-time at boston.com/business.

Boston.com will also be running an online readers poll to select this year's best Super Bowl ad. The winner will be announced on Feb. 6.

"The buzz around Super Bowl ads now rivals the game itself," said Ron Agrella, editor of Boston.com, in a statement. "Our technology monitors Twitter as commercials air, looks for the product names and #Brandbowl hashtag, then provides almost real-time data on whether viewers love or hate the spot. Last year, we analyzed more than 670,000 tweets and determined whether the commercial resonated with readers, or not."

Brand Bowl was originally conceived by Mullen in 2008. Brand Bowl 2014 will be co-produced by Boston.com and PointsLocal, in consultation with Mullen.
