Facebook No. 1 Social Media Platform For Non-Profits

Yet more evidence that Facebook isn't going to fade into oblivion any time soon.

According to a survey by Boston's Virtual Inc., Facebook is now the preferred social media platform for non-profit organizations, far outpacing Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and YouTube.

Of the 266 non-profit charitable groups and trade associations surveyed, 82% said they're using Facebook to get their message out, while only 54% were tweeting. LinkedIn was utilized by 49% of respondents, and YouTube by just 42%.

Non-profits aren't exactly gaga over Google+, either. Despite all the hype, the would-be Facebook contender was only used by 22% of respondents.

Virtual also found that non-profits are increasingly using online forums and webcasts to help get the word out. GotoMeeting was found to be the Web conferencing service of choice, grabbing 31% of the popular vote, followed by WebEx with 11%.
